A made-to-measure suit needs at least one fitting, and two is a comfortable number for most people. More fittings give the tailor more chances to refine the fit, but the right number depends on the garment, your body and how much time you have in Phuket. Fittings for a suit are planned so it can be ready 1 to 2 days after the fitting.
One fitting: the minimum
With one fitting, you try on the partly made suit and the tailor corrects what needs to change before the garment is finished. For a simple, straightforward body and design, that can be enough. The risk is that if the changes are larger than expected, there is no chance to check them before you leave.
Two fittings: a comfortable margin
The first fitting finds the issues. The second confirms the fixes and fine-tunes the details. If your schedule allows, two fittings are the sensible default for a suit.
Three or more: when they help
- Gowns and dresses with fitted bodices or lots of detail.
- Tuxedos and three-piece suits with more components.
- Overcoats that need to sit over other layers.
- Bodies that are harder to fit, for example strong asymmetry or recent weight change.
- Special events where the fit has to be as close to perfect as possible.
What each fitting is for
- Measurement visit: not a fitting, but it sets the pattern.
- First fitting: checks balance, shoulders, sleeves, waist and length. See how fittings work.
- Second fitting: confirms the changes and refines details.
- Final check: a last look at collection.
Planning for a short stay
If you have only a few days, a few things help:
- Visit as early as possible in your trip. The first day is ideal.
- Choose your fabric quickly. Look at a few and decide, rather than visiting five shops on the same day.
- Book fitting times before leaving the shop so the days are reserved.
- Be flexible about timing during the day.
- Tell the tailor honestly how many days you have and let them advise.
How fittings fit the timeline
For a suit, fittings are planned so that it can be ready 1 to 2 days after the fitting. For other garments, such as gowns or complex designs, how quickly they can be made depends on the item, the design and the shop’s workload. We ask for your departure date and tell you what is realistic, including whether a second fitting can fit in. If the answer is that your date is too tight for the design you want, a simpler design or a different item may be the better choice, and we will say so.
What if I am leaving before the work is done?
Ask about hotel delivery or shipping. We would rather discuss the options at the start, when you order, than at the end. Our guide to taking your suit home covers the practical side. Be aware that a suit that is shipped without a final fitting cannot be checked before it leaves, so ask about the trade-off.
Staying longer? Use the time
If you have a week or more, you can space the fittings and give the tailor room to refine the fit. Use the gaps between visits to wear the first try-on mentally: notice how it feels when you sit, and bring a list of points to the next visit.

Common questions
Can I have a suit made in one visit?
A single visit does not leave time to make and fit a garment. At minimum you need a measurement visit and a fitting visit, after which a suit can be ready in 1 to 2 days.
Do extra fittings cost more?
Ask when you get your quote, so you know what is covered.
What if I miss a fitting appointment?
Message the shop as early as you can. We will try to rearrange, depending on the time you have left.
Can a suit be altered after I get home?
A local tailor can make small alterations, but a major change is easier while the maker is still working on it. That is another reason to visit early.
