A custom gown in Phuket starts with a reference photo, a fabric choice and detailed measurements, followed by fittings in the shop where the tailor shapes the dress to your body. Because gowns have more seams and details than most garments, tell the tailor your event date and departure date early.
What kinds of gowns can be made?
Evening gowns, cocktail dresses and wedding-guest dresses are all typical commissions. Our ladies and gowns page shows the range, and the gallery has fittings from the shop floor. If you have a different idea, show us and we will discuss what is possible.
Step 1: Start with a picture
Words like “fitted but flowy” mean different things to different people. A photo, or a few, saves time. Say what you like about it: the neckline, the skirt, the back, the colour. And say what you would change. See how copying a design from a photo works.
Step 2: Choose a silhouette that suits you and the occasion
- Column or sheath: a close, straight line. Needs accurate measurements.
- A-line: fitted at the bodice and widening gently. Forgiving and comfortable.
- Mermaid or fit-and-flare: fitted through the hips, flared lower down. Needs careful fitting.
- Ball gown: full skirt, often with structure. Think about transport and space.
Consider where you will wear it. An outdoor evening in humid heat is a different brief from an air-conditioned ballroom.
Step 3: Choose fabric and lining
Fabric decides drape, comfort and how the dress photographs. Lace, satin, chiffon, crepe and others each behave differently, so ask to see and handle them. In hot, humid weather a breathable lining and fewer heavy layers keep you comfortable. If the dress is heavily embellished, ask the tailor how that affects time and weight.
Step 4: Measurements
For a gown the tailor will measure bust, underbust, waist, hips, shoulder width, back length and the length from shoulder to hem. It helps to bring the shoes and undergarments you plan to wear because they change the fit and the hem. Tell the tailor if your measurements might change before the event.
Step 5: Fittings
At a fitting the tailor pins and adjusts the bodice, straps, waist and hem on your body. It is normal to need adjustments. Stand, sit and move as you would at the event. Read how fittings work: the same principles apply to dresses.
Step 6: Plan around your dates
Gowns involve more construction than many garments. How long yours takes depends on the design and the shop’s workload, so we do not promise a fixed turnaround in advance. Give us your event date or departure date and we will tell you honestly what is realistic. If the date is tight, a simpler design may be the sensible choice.
Wedding dresses, bridesmaids and guests
If you are planning a destination wedding in Phuket, the party’s outfits can be coordinated: the groom’s suit, the bridesmaids’ dresses and guest outfits. See the wedding outfit guide. For bridal designs, speak to us early so we can discuss what is feasible within your timeframe.
Taking it home
Gowns need careful packing. Ask us about hotel delivery and shipping, and see taking your outfit home for packing ideas.

Common questions
Can you make a wedding dress?
Talk to us early, with photos and your dates. Bridal designs can be detailed, so we will tell you honestly what is feasible in your timeframe.
Can I bring my own fabric?
Ask us before you buy it. Whether outside fabric can be used depends on the fabric and the design.
What if my measurements change before the event?
Tell the tailor. Leaving room for adjustment at a fitting, or planning a final check close to the event, can help.
Can I order a matching outfit for a partner?
Yes, we are ladies and gent tailors, so a gown and a suit can be made together. See our suits page too.
Ready to plan yours?
Tell us what you want made and the date you leave Phuket. We will tell you what is realistic.
